Summary[]

The exact same text that appears on the Races page.

Anatomy[]

Appearance[]

  • Caudatians are reptilian humanoids. They have a thin layer of leathery scales, mostly black in color with red, orange, or yellow markings.
  • The skin on their face stretches and they do have advanced facial muscles, allowing them to emote with facial expressions, but not quite as much as mammal-like people.
  • Compared to humans, they have slightly longer torsos, slightly shorter legs, and slightly longer arms.
  • Their eyes tend to be bright, almost neon, ranging in color from blue to green, though not much of the color can be seen with their large, rounded pupils.
  • Females are smaller and slimmer, where males are noticeably broader in the shoulders, with overall more developed muscles.
  • Inspiration: fire salamanders and dragons.

Adaptations[]

  • Caudatians are cold-blooded. They don't need to eat very often.
  • Their skin is resistant to heat. Most don't need oven mits for baking.
  • They can spit poison. It looks like gooey and sticky brown stuff. The poison causes temporary blindness/blurriness and discomfort (not to a debilitating degree) if it gets in your eyes, but has little effect if it lands elsewhere. If they spit it through an open flame, the poison lights on fire and makes whatever it lands on burn more easily.
  • They have a wider field of vision than humans, about 20% wider.
  • They are immune or resistant to many poisons and venom.

Weaknesses[]

  • All the weaknesses that come with being cold-blooded.

Diet[]

  • There are large bugs in the area that they are native to. Their digestive system is capable of breaking down chitin, so the diet of their primitive ancestors consisted mainly of bugs, though they can eat some types of plants as well. Today, large bugs are raised commercially for Caudatian consumption.

Life Cycle (Terran years)[]

  • Caudatians have clutches of 3-5 eggs, which usually hatch and dissolve inside the female before she gives birth (when there are complications that cause the female to deliver eggs, they young can survive with intensive medical intervention). Newborn young look like tiny, skinny versions of adults, with enlarged heads and adorable large eyes. They are born more developed than most mammalian species and mature quickly, reaching physical adulthood at just 10 years old. There is no "full size" for a Caudatian, they continue to grow linearly throughout their short lives. At 10 years old, they are typically around 4-5 feet tall, and they typically live for 40-50 years, at which time they are around 6-7 feet tall. The oldest recorded Caudatian was 56 years old and was eight feet tall.

Society[]

Language and Communication[]

  • The language sounds a bit choppy and impatient. Their words are short and sentences don't have many words in them.

Government and Structure[]

  • The Caudatians are currently under the rule and protection of the Eldaral.

Culture[]

  • Height is reflective of experience, strength, and health, so being tall is considered highly attractive. High contrast in coloration is also indicative of health and is also considered attractive.
  • Their culture tends to de-emphasize art, unless it gets things done. Things that are both functional and beautiful, that's where it's at. Especially if there is a lot of contrast to the colors.
  • Caudatians tend to be passionate and energetic, and seem to have an ability to pull energy from nowhere when they really set their minds to something.
  • Their way of thinking tends to be very open to shifts, and they are quick to consider other viewpoints.
  • The major religions of old Caudatian culture are all pretty much dead. With sporadic exceptions, most Caudatians are atheist.

Instincts and Predispositions[]

  • They have a drive to always be doing something or producing something. Even most forms of relaxation involves making something, even if it's just videogames where you simulate making something.
  • They instinctively have a high social drive and are prone to collaboration.

Places[]

  • The area they are from was hot, dry, and along a fault line. There were lots of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Their tendency toward innovation is derived from the need to survive in this harsh climate.
  • Now, they live on Sylva or some other planet that the Eldaral own, or something. (Under construction)

History[]

See: Tesserians.

More detail is needed here about what has happened since the war.

Technology Level[]

The Caudatians are FTL-capable but currently have no Unobtainium of their own to get anywhere. They're adapting to the Eldaral way of life and have access to their technology.

Intergalactic Relations[]

The other Tesserian Races and the Eldarin[]

  • The TAI carries resentment toward the Caudatians. While it is understood that they acted in fear to an extent, the war may have never happened if the four nations had stayed united in their space exploration goals. The Eldarin, now extremely small in number, are a very protected and supported group in the TAI. Ironically, the cultural identities of the Pinnarans, Avarii, and Simayans have begun to unite and their societies have integrated out of a need to rebuild. Marriage between the species has been legalized, though many still cringe heavily at the thought, since these unions can't produce offspring, which some see as an affront to the efforts to rebuild.

Eldaral[]

  • The TAI still fears the Eldaral and would not take kindly if the Eldaral stopped by for a visit. The Eldaral have no remaining desire to interfere with the affairs of the Tesserians, and have declared that the remaining population of Eldarin is too small and integrated into the Tesserian population to pose a threat in the future. However, to this day, there is a secret, undercover Eldaral strike force seeking to eradicate what's left of the Eldarin, but this is not public knowledge, even to most Eldaral.

Guardian Ka[]

The Guardian Ka for all four Tesserian races is Kiro.
